Role of Green IT in Software Development Life Cycle

ABSTRACT
Software development is one of the most concerned topics in the IT community, the management of the green knowledge related to software development is one of the most important and challenging tasks for today’s software industry. The need to save energy in daily tasks has always been an important issue for many years. IT industry is also facing the challenge to minimize the energy required to perform development related tasks. Higher energy consumption by a system result in high operational cost. Further large amount of heat generation requires more power in order to cool down the environment. This research paper focuses on proposing a model for web-based knowledge management system and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities in accordance with green software rules to minimize the usage of environmental resources.
